Henry Hezekiah Hiley was born in Marion Co., (W.) Virginia, on March 28, 1844, a son of Hezekiah Hiley & Ruth A. (Ice). The early years of his life were spent with his parents in Marion Co., (W.) VA, Washington Co., Ohio, & Wetzel Co., W. Va., areas. At the age of 18, he married Miss Mary Ellen (Bogard) in Greene Co., Pennsylvania, on April 30, 1862.

Hezekiah served as a Union Soldier in the Civil War- Company H, 4 th Regiment West Virginia Volunteer Calvary under Capt. Michael Donahue. Enlisted as a Private at age 19 on 07/28/1863 at West Union, Doddridge Co., W. Va., for 6 months; He was discharged on 03/08/1864 at Wheeling, Ohio Co., W. Va. (# 603508)

He reenlisted in the Civil War as a Private in Company I, 6th West Virginia Infantry, at Grafton, Taylor Co., W. Va., on 2/17/1865 at age 21. He was honorably discharged at Wheeling, Ohio Co., W. Va., on 06/10/1865. (Certificate # SC 496897) While in Company I, he reported being disabled by jaundice resulting in affection of lungs, liver, kidneys and heart, partial deafness in right ear, and disease of eyes causing partial loss of sight and heart. Treated by civil surgeon of hospital at Grafton, W. Va., at his own expense, but he was not in the hospital- sent home on furlough about last of April 1865; family lived at Grafton, W. Va., and he stayed at home and reported every day to his captain or commanding officer.

Bogard (age 22, B-Va., Domestic); Priscilla Bogard (age 17, B-Va.); Sarah E. Bogard (age 12, B-Va.); Annie G. Brooks (age 6, B-OH) # 20-18

His Civil War pension application record dated 11/8/1897 lists his 9 living children with birth dates: J. R. Hiley 2/23/1863; J. I. Hiley 12/3/1864; G. W. Hiley 1/3/1866; D. A. Hiley 6/16/1869; Emma M. Hiley 9/16/1878; Stella B. Hiley 3/11/1881; Charley Hiley 1/1/1885; Nathan G. Hiley 2/27/1887; J. A. Hiley 9/22/1889.

Hesikiah Hiley (head, B-March 1844 WV, age 56, married 38 yrs, both parents B-WV) is listed on the 1900 Doddridge County (Central District), W. Va., census with his 1st wife, Mary E. (wife, B-Feb. 1844 WV, age 56, m 38 yrs, 14-9, both parents B-WV), and 6 children: George W. (Jan 1869/ son), Emma May (Sept 1879/ dau), Stella B. (Mar 1881/ dau), Charley (June 1884/ son), Nathan G. (Feb 1887/ son), & James A. (Sept 1889/ son). (All kids single and B-W. Va.) #28-29

After the death of his 1st wife, Hezekiah remarried to Mrs. Mary Frances (Myers) Smith, widow of William Riley Smith (1858-1915), in Clarksburg, Harrison Co., W. Va., on December 08, 1921 (recorded in Doddridge Co., WV)

Henry Hezekiah Hiley was a farmer. He died at Route #1, Central Station, Doddridge Co., W. Va., on May 23, 1929, at the age of eighty-five.

His original death certificate says he is buried in the Pigott Cemetery in Central, Doddridge Co., W. Va. His typed death cetificate in his Civil War widow's pension records lists the Duckworth Cemetery in West Union, Dodridge Co., W. Va., but his obituary and family reports he is buried in the Pigott Cemetery near Central Station, Doddridge Co., W. Va., beside his 1st wife.

His 2nd wife, Mary Frances (Myers) Smith-Hiley, died in Munhall, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania, in 1936 and was buried in the Duckworth Cemetery at West Union, Doddridge Co., W. Va., beside her first husband.
