Mildred Gale (Bottum) Trongard 1926-2013

Mildred G. Trongard, 87, died of congestive heart failure Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at Lawlis Family Hospice at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Mequon, Wisconsin. She lived in Port Washington, Wisconsin.

A funeral service will be held on June 14, 2014, at Tulare United Church, 205 Ohio Street, Tulare, Spink Co., SD. Burial in Burdette Cemetery, Hand Co., SD., next to husband, John.

Mildred was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Wessington SD, the daughter of Sheldon and Ellen (Ladd) Bottum.

She taught elementary school in Sacred Heart, Minn., which is where she met her husband, John Trongard. The couple married June 30, 1951, in Sacred Heart. They raised their family in West Allis, where Mrs. Trongard was a substitute teacher and ward secretary at West Allis Memorial Hospital.

The couple lived in Watertown, SD, from 1977-1990, where Mrs. Trongard was a ward secretary at St. Anne’s Hospital. In 1990, the couple moved to Grafton, Wisc. Mr. Trongard died September 8, 1993.

She moved to Port Washington, Wisc. in 2011. She enjoyed quilting and was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Grafton. She also enjoyed genealogy, was the keeper of her family’s historical records and stories, and always enjoyed sharing this information at family reunions in South Dakota.

Mildred is survived by her daughter Jo Ellen (Mark) Gray of Milwaukee; son James (Maureen Hughson) of Port Washington; grandchildren Asher (Kayleigh) Gray, Emily (Evan) Solochek, and Chloe Gray; brother Donald Bottum of Tulare, SD, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband John, she was preceded in death by her sisters Geraldine Kasin and Alice Kaye, and sister-in-law Marlene Bottum.
