Ellen M. Ladd was born November 5, 1894, at Winona, Minnesota, the daughter of William B. and Anna Adelaide (Jennings) Ladd. She and Sheldon G. Bottum, son of George and Mary (Stewart) Bottum, of Burdette Twp., Hand Co., South Dakota, were married December 14, 1918 at Akin, Minnesota.
She attended Winona State College, taught school in Minnesota and in South Dakota. *
She was a member of the Wheaton United Church of Christ and of the Wheaton Missionary Society.
Ellen is survived by her husband, three daughters, Helen Geraldine (Mrs. Horace Kasin) of Wallace, SD; Mildred (Mrs. John Trongard) of Watertown, SD; and Alice (Mrs. J.W. Kaye) of Mitchell, SD; and one son, Donald, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral: September 7, 1979, Wheaton United Church of Christ.
Officiating: Rev. Paul Opshal.
Burial: Burdette Cemetery.

*Obit stated she taught in Spink Co., but I believe it was in Hand Co., as they lived and farmed in Burdette Twp., Hand Co., all their married lives. "Burdette-addressed mail" was at one time given a "postal address" of "Tulare, SD", and delivered out of the Tulare, Spink Co. post office. Later, those same residents were given a "postal address" of "St. Lawrence, SD" and delivered from the St. Lawrence, Hand Co. post office. --csr
