Donald S. Bottum, of Tulare, SD, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2020, at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield, SD.

Donald was born March 3, 1931 to Sheldon Gale and Ellen Mildred (Ladd) Bottum of Burdette, Hand Co., South Dakota. He attended rural country school with his sisters through eighth grade, graduating from Redfield High School in 1949.

He served with the 33rd Army band station in Germany from 1952 to 1954. He was married on June 4, 1954 in Rockham to Marlene M. (Schmidt), daughter of Fred and Avis (Pierce) Schmidt. Don and Marlene farmed west of Tulare all their married life. They were the parents of Diane, Dwight, and Dennis.

He was a farmer his entire life and spent his life in Burdette township on the farm where he was raised until 2011 when he moved to town.

He enjoyed going to sporting events at the Tulare and Hitchcock-Tulare School when he was able and rarely missed a ball game.

Donald was a past Tulare School Board Member, Tri Church Parish Board Member, and was the Burdette Twp. clerk for many years. He also enjoyed singing, singing in the church choir and men’s quartet for many years.

Donald was a member of Tulare United Church, Tulare American Legion Post #292, Zenith Lodge #202 and Oasis Chapter Order of Eastern Star #128, Tulare.

Donald is survived by his children: Diane (Doug)Tipton, Dwight (Ann) Bottum, both of Tulare and Dennis (Sylvana) Bottum of Melissa, TX. He is also survived by grandchildren: Christian Tipton, Colin (Charina) Tipton, Chad (Stephanie) Tipton, Tiff (Anna) Bottum, Tawny (Shannon) Kaup, Nicholas (Miquette) Bottum, Cassandra Bottum, Tristan Bottum, Tiara Bottum & Trishia Bottum. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2008, his parents, and his sisters: Geraldine Kasin, Mildred Trongard, and Alice Kaye; and also a great-grandson, Andrew Joseph Tipton.

Burial, with military honors: Burdette Cemetery in Hand County, SD.
