Doretta B. Gullickson, 97, died Wednesday at Riverview Manor, Flandreau.
Doretta was born October 18, 1910 in Fremont Township, Moody County, SD to Alfred and Ida (Amundson) Gulbranson. She attended school at McCurdy Country School. Doretta married Marvin Gullickson on February 22, 1931 after a Lenten service at Midway Lutheran Church. They farmed in Riverview and Fremont Townships until they retired from farming in August of 1968. They moved to Sioux Falls for three years returning to Flandreau in the spring of 1971. Doretta started working at Riverview Manor in 1971 and volunteered there until she was 94 years old. She was a member of Midway Lutheran Church, WELCA, American Cancer Society, the Republican Party, helped cook at the Senior Citizens Center and liked to play cards.
Doretta is survived by five sons: Alvin (Sharon), Colman, David (Elaine), Brookings, Rev. James (Sharon), Inver Grove Heights, MN, Edward (Linda), Flandreau, and Thomas, St. Louis, MO; six daughters: Irene Nelsen, Sioux Falls, Dorothy Pulscher, Flandreau, Margaret Stein, Elkton, Lorraine (Dwayne) Damm, Bridgewater, Mary (Bernard) Shane, Pipestone and Darlene (Carroll) Kuhnel, Flandreau; 56 grandchildren, 109 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Esther Luttmann, Sioux Falls, Caroline Gullickson, Brookings, and Doris Suthard, LaJolla, CA. Doretta was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; one son, Donald; two sons-in-law, Dean and Don; two grandchildren, Steve and Jerry; her parents and one brother, Alton.
