Death of Mrs. Sherman.

Mrs. Vernan Sherman, aged thirty-eight years, died at her home at Penton last Saturday. She is survived by her husband and two children, Sadie and Mary John, the latter being only seventeen days old; her mother, Mrs. Fannie Howell, of Lanett; two sisters, Mrs. Tom Barber, of Langdale, and Mrs. A. A. Frazer, of LaFayette; three brothers, John Lee Howell, of Lanett; J. W. Howell, of Buffalo; and W. T. Howell, of Roanoke.

The remains were interred at the Penton Cemetery last Sunday, Rev. J. W. Rucker, of LaFayette, conducting the services.

In Memory Of Mrs. Vernon Sherman.

Mrs. Kate Sherman, wife of Mr. Vernon Sherman, of Penton, Ala., departed this life October 28, 1922. She was born December 28, 1884. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband and two children - Sadie and Mary John, the latter being only seventeen days old. Also her mother - Mrs. Fannie Howell, of Lanett, and two sisters and three brothers - Mrs. Tom Barber, of Langdale, and Mrs. A. A. Frazier, of LaFayette; Messrs. John Lee Howell, of Lanett; J. W. Howell, of Buffalo, and W. T. Howell, of Roanoke.

How sad to think of her dear baby who so much needed a mother's care being left to never know the value of a mother's love. But we must remember that God in His infinite wisdom knows best.

She was ever patient and forbearing in all her sickness. Not one murmur or complaint was ever heard to pass her lips. Her thoughts were of the time when she would be able to nurse and care of her children. It seems hard to have to give up father, but when it comes to mother, our dearest and truest friend, it seems almost unbearable. But God doeth all things well, and He can help us bear our troubles if we only trust in Him.

It has only seemed yesterday when she was jolly and gay. Her ambitions were to make her home one of happiness and to make those with whom she associated love her.

Her death should be an inspiration to each and every one of us to live for God, because we never know what tomorrow has in store for us. But if we live for and trust in God we can always have the assurance that we will be ready to meet Him when He calls for us.

Dear husband and children, you have lost one whose chair will ever be vacant and whose place can never more be filled. You will often listen for her step on the sill, but she will not be there. But you have the memory of her untiring and devoted life, her kind words and gentle smiles to ever be a guide and comfort to you.

All that loving hands could do was done for her, but she could not stay. So let us look to God, who can and is able to heal our wounded and bleeding hearts, to comfort and help us in this sad hour of trouble, and give us wisdom to guide the little steps of the two precious children she has entrusted to our care, and who will never know the pleasure of having a mother to love and trust.

Her body was laid to rest in the Penton Cemetery, under the direction of Will Nichols, Jr., of West Point, Ga. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Rucker, of LaFayette.

Pall bearers were Messrs. Will Nichols, Jr., J. A. Crisler, Pink Webb, L. H. Weldon, H. R. Lowe, L. L. Barber, C. L. and C. S. Talley.

The beautiful flowers which adorned her casket bespoke of the many friends of this beloved woman.

Oh, mother dear, we miss you here;

Your place can ne'er be filled,

The loving voice we loved so well

Is now forever stilled.

We listen oft thy step to hear,

In every nook and place;

But we must now, console our minds

With memories of thy face.

Our sorrows here must be they gain;

Our home no more shall be

The paradise of happy love

It was, while blest with thee.

We leave you now with God alone.

And trust His grace divine;

And we shall meet you there some day.

Where joys are more sublime.
