ROANOKE LOSES FINE CITIZEN IN DEATH OF MR. W. THOS. HOWELL

Last Monday evening about six o'clock, W. Thomas Howell, well known citizen and for about eighteen years a rural mail carrier from the Roanoke post office, passed away after an illness of several months. He was fifty years old and had seemed to be strong and robust until a few months ago. Last November he had to ask for relief from his work and was never able to resume it. The best medical attention and the tender care of the wife and other loved ones failed to stay the hand of disease and at last the end of his earthly life came.
Twenty eight years ago he was married to Miss Ida Jackson. A son, J. Trent Howell, now a member of the office force of the W.A. Handley Mfg. Co. is the only child of this marriage. Besides his widow and son he is survived by his mother Mrs. Fannie Howell of Lanett; two brothers, J.L. Howell of Lanett and J.W. Howell of Penton; and two sisters, Mrs. Thos. Barber of Birmingham and Mrs. Allison Frazer of LaFayette.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock from the First Baptist church of which the deceased was a member, by his pastor Rev. W.E. Lockler, who had received him into membership in the church. A large number of friends gathered to pay last tribute to the memory of a good husband, father, friend and citizen.
