Roscoe W. Wilson, 84 of Cane Creek Road, Fletcher Rt. 1 died Friday afternoon
(1/30/1970) in a Henderson County hospital after a short illness. He was a
native of Henderson County and had lived in Buncombe County for the past 45
years. His wife, Mrs. Laura Smart Wilson died in 1951. Surviving are two
daughters, Mrs. Lorene Talley of Highlands and Mrs. Clara Smith of Siler City;
five sons, W. G., J. H., and David R. of Fletcher, J. W. of Arden and Lester
Wilson of the home; and four sisters, Mrs. Nanny Ashworth, Mrs. Carrie Hepler,
and Mrs. Mollie Kirstein, all of Fairview, and Mrs. Leslie Fowler of
Winston-Salem. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Fletcher Baptist
Church of which he was a member. The Revs. Odell Barnwell, Ernest Bartlett, and
D. K. Brevard will officiate. Burial will be in Bethany United Methodist Church
Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lewis Kirstein, jr., James Hudgins, Tom and
Robert Wilkie, Ben Harris, and Williard Lewis. The family will receive friends
at Groce Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, where the body will remain
until 30 minutes prior to the services.
