Andrew Daniel "Dan" Toney was born on February 8, 1891 in the state of Mississippi to Andrew "Hardin" Toney and Matilda"Tilda" (Thompson) Toney.

Andrew married Janie (Lewis) and they had the following children per the 1930 Federal Census: Son, Kelly (19), Sylvester (17), Lorena (13), Lola (11), James "Gaston" (9), son Gadis (7), Vera (4 months), son J.D. (3 months), and daughter Myrtis (1 month).

Andrew's father, Andrew "Hardin" Toney was born January, 1850 in Mississippi and he was a farmer per the 1880 census. Hardin married Matilda "Tilda" (Thompson) on September 3, 1873 in Simpson County, Mississippi. Per the 1900 U.S. Federal Census, Hardin was divorced.

Andrew's mother, Tilda was born in Mississippi and she was a house keeper. Per the 1880 Federal Census their children were: Charles (6), William (4) and Emma (2). By the 1900 Census Andrew's parents were divorced.
