MONTPELIER — Calvin Nathaniel Davidson, 85, passed away on April 6, 2010, at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital under the compassionate care of the hospital staff. He was born August 16, 1924, in Rexburg, Idaho, son of John David Nathaniel Davidson and Ella Spaulding Grover Davidson. Calvin grew up on the family farm in Parker, Idaho, and attended schools in Parker and St. Anthony. In 1944, he entered the military in service to the country he loved. Cal joined the Marine Corps in March 1944, and participated in the first landing on Iwo Jima. During the fighting he lost his right leg and sustained many injuries as a result of an enemy grenade exploding in his trench. Many months were spent recuperating in military hospitals in Hawaii and California.
He returned home on the Fourth of July 1946, where he met Beth Belnap Waters. They were married June 12, 1948, in Butte, Montana. Their family was later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple in June 1962.
Calvin graduated from Idaho State College Vo-Tech Diesel Mechanics in 1949, and moved to Soda Springs to work for International Harvester. He was also employed by Wells Cargo, Patton and Linton Cement Company, and retired from Kemmerer Coal Company in 1981.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Calvin was also an active member of the Disabled American Veterans organization and served in various positions for many years to assist his fellow veterans. He enjoyed a lifelong association with friends from the Marine Corps. Gathering family history information and visiting relatives were among his favorite pastimes.
His family is especially grateful for his collecting and framing large portraits of several generations. He also enjoyed building, remodeling, and spending time in the mountains. He liked looking through mail-order catalogs and purchasing gadgets.
He is survived by his three children, Diane Davidson, Layton, Utah, Calvin Wayne (Sue), Eagle River, Alaska, and Jon (Kaylene), Pocatello; eight grandchildren and 19 greatgrandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Services will be held at the Montpelier Second Ward Chapel, located at 585 North Eighth Street on Friday, April 9, at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in the Montpelier City Cemetery.
