Race: White
Father's Name: William R. Newlin
Mother's Name: Margaret E. Newlin

(Noted): Bessie Virginia Newlin was born on December 5th, 1890, in Back Creek, Frederick Co, Va., because her birth is listed under the (Frederick County Virginia Births) which showed: Bessie Newlin (b) Dec. 5th, 1890; listing her (parents) as: William and Margaret Newlin. So, either someone gave her wrong birth month to the Newspaper; and the wrong birth year to the funeral home. Or, it was a “type-error.”

(Husband): Arthur Frederick Smith.

Bessie Virginia Newlin married Arthur Frederick SMITH., (the son of Charles I. Smith and Sarah Louisa ( ? ) Smith); sometime before 1914, before the birth of their only child and son (Lester G. Smith), in Virginia.

(Son) Ralph C Newlin 15 Dec/1884 Va.

Living in: Shawnee, Frederick, Virginia

(Noted): Cesus stated that William and Margaret were married around (1881); and that they had (6) children; but that (4) were still living. Ancestry.com has "Goley" down as (Gaby), but her name is (Gola "Goldie" Lavina Newlin).

Bessie Virginia Newlin married Arthur Frederick SMITH., sometime before 1914, before the birth of their only child and son (Lester G. Smith), in Virginia.

(1910 Census): Under her father, William R. Newlin.

(Head) William R. Newlin 50, (1860) Virginia
(Wife) Margaret E. 50, (1860) Va.
(daughter) Bessie V. 19, (1891) Va.
(son) Salem 17, (1893) Va.

Living in: Shawnee District, Frederick Co, Virginia.

(Noted) Census states that William & Margaret were married for “28,” years; around (1882). And, that William was a (Farmer) and his son (Salem) was a "Farm Laborer."

(Noted) Shortly after the 1910 Census was taken. Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth {Cooper} Newlin (who was born on Oct. 2nd, 1859-61 in Hampshire Co, “Old Virginia,” present day W. Va.), had died on May 27th, 1910, in Frederick Co, Va. William Reese Newlin would later follow her in death; on March 19th, 1915 in Winchester, Frederick Co, Virginia. Both are buried at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, off of Cedar Creek Grade, in Frederick Co, Va.

(Noted): Bessie Virginia Newlin married Arthur Frederick SMITH., (the son of Charles I. Smith and Sarah Louisa ( ? ) Smith); sometime before 1914, before the birth of their only child and son (Lester G. Smith), in Virginia.

(Census Records) for Bessie Virginia Smith):

(1920 Census) Under her husband, Arthur F. Smith.
(Under Heritage Quest):

(Head) Arthur F. Smith 36, (1884) Va.
(Wife) Bessie V. 26, (1894) Va.
(son) Lester G. 5, (1915) Va.

Living in: Lamp Precinct, Back Creek District, Frederick Co, Virginia.

(Noted) Arthur’s occupation was that of a (Teamster/Hauling Wood) for a Lumberyard. And, Arthur's (parents) Charles I., and Sarah L. Smith; are living next door “below” them... (AND) I see Bessie, also, is NOT one to “reveal her true age!” Because she (should be) “30,” years of age. :)

(1930 Census) Under her husband, A. L. Smith.
(Under Heritage Quest):

(Head) A. F. Smith 47, (1883) Va.
(Wife) Bessie 30, (1900) Va.
(son) Lester G. 14, (1916) Va.

Living in: “Southeast Part” Back Creek District, Frederick Co, Virginia.

(Noted) Heritage Quest has Arthur’s middle initial down “wrong,” as an “L.” But, it’s actually an “F.” That’s just the way the Census Reader saw it, and entered it in wrong on the computer. (WOW) Check out HOW young Bessie is, here... “Hee-Hee.” She REALLY doesn’t like to “reveal her true age!” (Taking “10,” years off).
(Also Noted) Arthur's occupation was that of a (Flushing/ Saw Mill) Lumberyard worker. And, Arthur’s (Widowed) Mother; Sarah L. Smith - is living next door “below.”

(1940 Census): Under herself, Bessie V. Smith.

(Head) Bessie V. Smith 40 (1900) Va. "Widowed"
(Son) Lester G. Smith 25 (1915) Va. "Single."

Living in: Back Creek, Frederick Co., Virginia.

(Noted): Census Recorder Reader put down the wrong middle initial for Lester, putting it down as a (B), but, if you look "CLOSELY," you can tell it's really a (G), because the Census Enumerator just wrote their "G" funny (because if you look at other (G) letters on the same Cesus Record, you will see Lester's middle initial is clearly a (G). Plus, the Census Records stated that they lived on Street: Wardensville Grade. And, that, Bessie was listed as a (Housekeeper); and her son (Lester) was a (Sawyer) working at a Saw Mill, as a Lumber Saw Worker.
