Ralph C. Newlin

Ralph C. Newlin, “72,” of Smithton, R. D., died Saturday, in
West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born Dec. 5th, 1884, in Opequon, Va., a son of the late William and Elizabeth Newlin; And was a farmer in the Smithton area, for many years. He was a member of the Madison E.U.B. Church, and it’s board of trustees. Surviving are his “widow,” Mrs. Pearl (Jellison) Newlin; four children: (Dau) Mrs. J. D. (Grace) Heltebran, and (Dau) Mrs. Walter (Blanche) Hepler, both of Smithton; (Son) Edward Newlin, of Grantville; and (Son) Herbert Newlin, of Scottdale; 10 grandchildren and a (Brother) Salem Newlin, of Opequon, Va. The body will be at the Beatty Funeral Home at Madison, until noon Tuesday, when it will be taken to the Madison E.U.B. Church, to lie in state, from 1 until 2 o’clock, the hour of service. The Rev. Harold E. Huey will officiate. Interment will be in Madison Union Cemetery.

(Other facts) My Newlin relatives told me that my Uncle Ralph was a quiet man, yet very friendly. And, from some of the pictures I've seen of him, it looks like he had a comical funny side to him, enjoying acting silly and liked to smile and laugh. He also loved animals; and had horses, and raised sheep on his farm in Pa. Plus, he also had a lot of farm cats, too... "You Go, Great-Uncle Ralph!" :)
