Joint Rites Slated on Tuesday For Two Oakridge Youths
OAKRIDGE-Joint funeral services will be held Tuesday for L. Wayne Cline and Garry Dean Clark, 17-year-old Oakridge High School athletes who drowned Monday, Nov. 11, 1957, while duck hunting in Davis Lake.
Rites, at 1:30 p.m. will be conducted by the Rev. Clyde Blakely of the Christian Church in the physical education room of the new Oakridge High School. Senior classmates of the two youths will serve as pall bearers. Vault interment is planned for both in Lane Memorial Gardens, Eugene.
Monday, from 8 to 9 p.m., friends may view both bodies at Chapel of the Woods, Oakridge funeral home.
L. Wayne Cline, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cline of Willamette City, was born Sept. 12, 1940, at Cottage Grove. A three-sports letterman and active in student affairs, he was vice President of the high school student body last year, a Boy's State representative and "King Winter" for the annual high school winter carnival. Surviving are his parents, two brothers, two sisters, his grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. Armin Duerst of Cottage Grove, and great-grandmothers, Mrs. Louise Kibbey, Gresham, Ore., and Mrs. Lucy Robbins, Cottage Grove.
Garry Dean Clark, a track and baseball letterman and a member of the Oakridge High football squad, is survived by his father, Irvin M. (Bud) Clark of Crestview Drive, Oakridge. His mother, Olive W. Sutherland Clark, died two years ago. Also surviving are his twin brother, Larry Gene, and six other brothers, including two serving with the U.S. Air Force; and three sisters, Mrs. Flora May of Brownsville, Ore., Gloria Jean Clark of Oakridge, and Mrs. Cather McClintock, Denver, Colo.
