Oakridge Man Killed in Logging Mishap
Donald R. Clark, 48, of Oakridge, was killed Monday after being crushed by a log on the Mare Creek timber sale near Buck Creek.
Clark was operating a log truck for Pope and Talbot Lumber Co., hauling logs from the logging site being logged by Christian Bros. Logging Co. from Springfield, under contract with Pope and Talbot to log the timber slaes. A spokesman for Pope and Talbot said Clark was out of his truck, putting on the log binders, when a log began to roll off the loaded truck. Clark ran away from the rolling log and jumped behind some logs decked by the side of the road, but the rolling log struck the logs Clark had jumped behind, and he was crushed.
