2-1-1830 -- 7-3-1915
Mrs. Zuendel passed away peacefully at her home at Starr on July 3rd, 1915.
She was born in Rambach, Germany, Feb. 1st, 1830, and was the only daughter of John Adam and Anna Elizabeth Zuendel. Her mother died when the deceased was but 7 years old and at that tender age she cared for her younger brother, then a babe of nine weeks.
A few years later she came to this country with her father and brother. On Nov. 11th, 1847, she was married to Henry A. Zuendel. They resided at Ross Run the first few years of their married life and in the spring of 1851 moved to the farm on German Hill, now Starr, where the rest of her life was spent and where her husband died Jan. 19th, 1901. Nine children were born to them, six of whom are left to mourn the loss of a most kind and affectionate mother: George of Kellettville, Henry and John of Starr, Conrad, Elizabeth and Mary at home. She also leaves 20 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; also one brother Christopher of Starr and many other relatives and friends.
It can be truly said of Mother Zuendel that she was loved by all who knew her. As long as her health permitted, she was always found in the homes where sickness and sorrow dwelt, ministering to the sick and comforting the sorrowing. It was her delight to do good. She was ever ready to give to the needy and none were ever turned away from her door that needed help. She was especially devoted to her home and family. No sacrifice was ever too great to make for her loved ones and she was always seeking their interests before her own. In all her long sickness, she never murmured or complained, though often her sufferings were great, and at the last she simply fell asleep to awaken where pain and suffering are unknown.
She had for many years been a consistent member of the Free Methodist church and there as everywhere else she will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were conducted in the Zuendel church on Tuesday at 2:00 PM, by the Rev. E. L. Monroe of Meadville, assisted by Rev. M. E. Wolcott of Tionesta, and she was laid to rest beside her husband in the Zuendel cemetery. Six of her grandsons acted as pallbearers. Truly a good mother has gone to her reward.
