Polly was born on the old Telly Place in Hancock County to Seaborn Merrit "Joe" Whitfield (2/20/1852 - 11/14/1898) and Hester Lavinia Stockstill Whitfield ((12/24/1850 - 12/27/1933). She had one sister, Theodocia Pearl Whitfield Jopes (6/28/1873 - 2/11/1969). On 18 May,1892,she was married to Pedro D. Whitney (9/8/1870 - 5/8/1926)in Hancock County, MS. They had seven children: Audrey Jo Whitney Hart; Jack Whitney; Ethel Vivian Whitney Rody; Henry Crass "Bolse" Whitney; Angie Pearl Whitney Mullens; Pedro Coburn Whitney; Mildren Inez Whitney Warren. She had seven grandchildren: Leigh,Terry and Paula Hart; Hover Ladner, Rudolph and Roger Whitney; Gail Warren

This grave, originally in Gainesville Baptist Church, was relocated and the remains reinterred in the early 1960'a due to construction of the Mississippi Rocket Test Facility now John C. Stennis Space and Technology Center
