YOU CAN TAKE THE MAN FROM THE LAND, BUT YOU CAN'T TAKE THE LAND FROM THAT MAN.

Dad was born in the last generation of cowboys in NE Colorado in 1901. Moved to Arvada CO, near Denver in about 1920 with his family. Met and married Margaret Ida Black in 1925, and moved to California shortly thereafter. Settled in Oakland CA and was employed as an automobile mechanic. He and Margaret would have two boys. He moved his family to the hills above Hayward so that he could have lots of animals and more land. Then after the 2nd war world, he and his family moved to San Lorenzo, where his only daughter was born and then three years moved back to Hayward so that he could raise squabs. He died of lung cancer and died in his home.

While he left his grandfather John Henry Shackley's ranch in 1920, all of his life he kept trying to go back to the land.

God rest him, Love son Doug
