Jesse Skiles, 86, of Silvis, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2008 at Oak Glen Nursing Home, Coal Valley.

Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Burial is at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation is 11 a.m. to service time. Memorials may be made to the family.

He was born Feb. 19, 1922, in Ray, Ill., the son of Homer and Bertha Lincoln Skiles. He married Marjorie Jennings April 19, 1922, in Ray.

Jesse retired from John Deere as a molder. He served in the Army during World War II, receiving two Purple Hearts, Oak Leaf Cluster and a Bronze Star. Jesse loved using his metal detector, fishing, grilling and playing the harmonica.

Survivors are his wife, Marjorie; children, Russ (Zoe) Jennings of Milan, Jerry (Linda) Skiles of LeClaire, Kathy (Walt) Thomas of Cuba, Ill., Corby (Sandra) Skiles of Kingwood, Texas, and Teresa (Jeff) Reha of Ankeny, Iowa; siblings, Dorothy Lang, Hildreth Walters, Lela Ward and Bob Skiles; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents, two brothers, one sister and a great-granddaughter, Brianna.
