A native of Illinois, he lived here 52 years. He was the husband of Mrs. Ada Hitchings Yates and a son of John E. and Mrs. Cora Strous Yates.
He was a Navy veteran of World War I and a Presbyterian.
Besides his widow, surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Cecil M. Edwards of Norfolk; two sons, Everett F. Yates Jr. of Norfolk and Preston E. Yates of Belleville, Ill; a brother, Preston A. Yates of Chicago; and 12 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home by the Rev. D. D. Beiler of First Assembly of God Church, Virginia Beach. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will be at the home of his daughter, 8528 Halprin Drive.
