Everett F. Yates Jr., 77, of the 2200 block of Helsley Ave. died Dec. 11, 1997, in a local hospital.

Born in Norfolk, he had retired from the fire department of the City of Norfolk after 28 years of service. He was a member of Azalea Baptist Church, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 39, and Larrymore Civic League. Mr. Yates was in the Merchant Marine during World War II. He was the son of the late Everett F. Yates Sr. and Ada H. Yates.

Survivors include his wife, Renee H. Yates; two daughters, a son; a sister, Dorothy Y. Edwards of Norfolk; a brother, Preston E. Yates Sr. of Florida; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted with Moose rites at 12:30 p.m. Monday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by the Rev. Jan G. Oberdick. Burial will be private at a later date. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
