Preston Andrew Yates was the son of Elijah John Yates and Cora Elizabeth Strouss. He served as a 2nd Lt., 16th Infantry, U.S. Army, between 01 May 1917 and 18 Dec 1918. He married Leila M. Hall on 01 May 1918 in Cook County, Illinois; together they had two sons, Richard Arthur and Eugene Willis.

Obituary: "YATES - Preston A. Yates, February 6, 1973, beloved husband of Leila Yates; fond father of Richard A. and Eugene W. Yates; grandfather of Robert, Ronald, Keith and Gregory; great grandfather of three. At Lain & Son Chapel, 2121 W. 95th St. where services will be held Friday, February 9th at 1 p.m. Interment Evergreen. Visitation after 3 p.m. Wednesday. 238-2182."
