Lawrence Westrum 1922-2002

Lawrence O. Westrum, 80 of Leonard died on December 25, 2002 at his residence near Leonard.
He was born December 11, 1922 at Clearbrook, the son of Severin and Bessie (Lee) Westrum. He attended the Rydeen School in rural Clearbrook through the eighth grade. he worked on the family farm until he entered the U.S. Army in 1944. He served in the Philippine Islands and Japan during World War II. After returning from the service he farmed and worked on construction.
Lawrence married Devona Engdahl on November 21, 1951 in Clearbrook. The worked at a ranch in Montana in 1952, moving back to Leonard where Lawrence worked on construction until retirement.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and the Melvin Johnson American Legion Post # 156 of Clearbrook.
He is survived by his wife Devona of Leonard; sons Larry (Marilee) and Leslie, both of Leonard, Lee (Jennifer) of Benson, Minnesota; daughters, Robin (Douglas) Gunning of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Rebecca (David) Lehmann of Rosemount, Minnesota; brother Donovan of Clearbrook, and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
His funeral was held Saturday, December 28, 2002 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Leonard. Interment was at the Norway Lake Cemetery in Leonard. Military rites were accorded by member of the Melvin Johnson American Legion Post #156 of Clearbrook. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
