Bessie was the daughter of Leonard Lee and Anna Elsabe Torgeson.
She had nine siblings: Ole Leonard, Alice, Christine, Laura Tilene, Thelma Amelia, Leona Anita, Lorn Theodore, Agnes, Lewis, and two unknown infants.
Bessie married Severin Westrum on July 12, 1917.
They were the parents of five children: Arvilla Evelyn, Orvin Lloyd, Lawrence Oberin, Norma Rosalie, and Donavon Delano.

Betsy G. Westrum, 92, a former resident of Leonard, died Monday, September 6, 1993, at the Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook.
Betsy was born in Erskine on December 14, 1900, to Leonard and Annie Lee. In 1910 the family moved to the Leonard area of Clearwater County. Her marriage to Severin Westrum took place in Leonard on July 12, 1917. The Westrum's lived and farmed in the Leonard area. Betsy was very active in Out Savior's Lutheran Church activities and was a 4-H leader. Later in life she became active in the Clearbrook Senior Citizen organization. Since 1985 she has made her home at the Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook.
Survivors include one daughter, Arvilla Westrum of Bagley; two sons, Lawrence and Donovan, both of Leonard; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Severin, on April 4, 1987; son, Orville; daughter, Norma; one grandson; three brothers and five sisters.
Her funeral will be Friday, September 10 at 11 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Leonard, with the Rev. Gary Boen officiating. Burial will be made in the Norway Lake Cemetery under the direction of the Cease Funeral Home, Bagley. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Casket bearers will be grandsons, Jerry, Bob, Dick, Larry, Leslie, Lee and Corey Westrum.
