Mrs. Bertha Smelser, 86, of Stanley died Monday morning, March 26 at the home of Mrs. Carson Aleshire, her granddaughter, where she had been living.
She was born Feb. 20, 1887 and was a daughter of the late John and Sarah Nauman Leak.
Her husband, Lewis E. Smelser died Aug. 7, 1941. Surviving are one son, Glendon Smelser of Stanley; one sister, Mrs. Maggie Lucas of Stanley; one grandchild; five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Leake's Chapel by the Rev. Andrew Laslo. Burial was in the church cemetery.
