Margaret attended Tualatin Academy at Forest Grove, Oregon Territory and married a local merchant, George W. Fearnside on April 14, 1854. They moved to Tillamook, Oregon where he had a store on a barge that visited settlements around the Bay. Margaret died of tuberculosis and hers was the first burial in the Tillamook Pioneer Cemetery. Four of her daughters were raised by her sisters and one (Elvia) by her father John Tucker Scott. Her sister Abigail Scott Duniway raised Anna.
