Margaret Ann was the fourth child of John Tucker and Ann (Roelofson) Scott. She came with her family over the Oregon Trail in 1852. Her mother Ann and a younger brother Willie died on the Trail.

Margaret attended Tualatin Academy at Forest Grove, Oregon Territory and married a local merchant, George W. Fearnside on April 14, 1854. They moved to Tillamook, Oregon where he had a store on a barge that visited settlements around the Bay. Margaret died of tuberculosis and hers was the first burial in the Tillamook Pioneer Cemetery. Four of her daughters were raised by her sisters and one (Elvia) by her father John Tucker Scott. Her sister Abigail Scott Duniway raised Anna.

Their children were:

2 Anna Mary (Dr. Augustus Benjamin Eastham)
3 Elvia (raised by her maternal grandfather & step-grandmother, died age 20)
4 Helen (Charlie Smith)
5 Margaret (Edward M. Philebaum)
6 infant (born and died 1864)
