William Hugh Riney, 81, of Owensboro passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2010. Born July 1, 1928, in Owensboro, Mr. Riney was the son of the late Guerdon and Mable Kelly Riney, was retired from GE/MPD where he worked from 1952 to 1993, was a husband and father dedicated to caring for his family and a member of St. Stephen Cathedral. Mr. Riney was devoted to his Catholic faith and especially St. Vincent De Paul and the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts. Mr. Riney was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals and UK sports fan. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, for whom he lovingly cared for the last years of her life, Mary Helen Hartz Riney; a son, Bill Riney; a granddaughter, Brooke Riney; and sisters Maxine Cecil and Edith Riney. He is survived by his children, Kitty Riney (and Rex Jones) of Louisville, Helen Ann (and Joe) Day and Mary Lou (and John) Ray of Owensboro, Chuck (and Pam) Riney of Charlotte, N.C., Rick (and Susan) Riney of Louisville, Ben Riney of Atlanta, Byron (and Jennifer) Riney of Lawrenceburg and Christine Riney of Cumberland Furnace, Tenn.; 22 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers F.G. (Winnie) Riney of Owensboro, Kelly (Hughleen) Riney of Louisville, Jim (Sarah Mae) Riney of Orlando, Fla., and Don (Dee) Riney Amelia Island, Fla.; and sisters Mary Phoebe (Vincent) Ebelhar of Owensboro, Dorothy Getchel of Petaluma, Calif., and Beverly Cambron of Vero Beach, Fla. Services are at 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Catholic Church, with Father Tony Jones officiating, followed by burial in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where the rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Sunday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Carmel Home, 2501 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303.
