Carolyn (Gilkerson) Doome, 85, widow of George Kenton Doome, of Bridgewater Home, formerly of 1056 Westmoreland Drive, Staunton, died at 3:28 p.m. Wednesday (July 14, 2004) in the Bridgewater Home, Bridgewater.

She was born Sept. 17, 1918, in North River, Rockingham County, a daughter of the late William A.R. and Blanch (Glover) Gilkerson.

Mrs. Doome was a graduate of the Bridgewater High School class of 1935, and Templeton Business School of Staunton.

She held secretarial and accounting positions in Staunton and retired from Mary Baldwin College as a secretary.

She was a member of Mount Crawford United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Dean Holt Auxiliary of King's Daughters' Hospital.

Family members include the following nieces and nephews, Mrs. Robert S. Smiley of Fort Defiance, Miss Joanne E. Gilkerson of Plantation, Fla., Cecil F. Gilkerson of Harrisonburg, Griffin W. Gilkerson of Bridgewater; and a number of great-nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday (July 17, 2004) at Thornrose Cemetery by the Rev. Helen Zottoli.

There will be no public viewing.

Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
