Graduated from the University of Minnesota with mechanical engineering degree in 1908. Commissioned in the Coast Artillery Corps in 1910. Assistant to the Chief of Coast Artillery 1917-1921. Duty in the Philippines 1921-1923. Graduated from Command and General Staff School in 1922, and the Army War College in 1930. In the Personnel Division at the War Department General Staff 1930-1933. Graduated from the Naval War College in 1935. Director of the Department of Tactics at the Coast Artillery School 1936-1939. Commanding Officer of the 70th Coast Artillery 1939-1940.
Promoted to Brigidier General in October 1940. Commander of Antiaircraft Artillery Training Center at Hinesville, Georgia 1940-1941. Commanding General of 38th Coast Artillery Brigade, then 4th Coast Artillery District Februrary 1941-March 1942. Commanding General of Harbor Defenses at Boston 1942-1944. Retired in February 1944. Died at St. Petersburg, Florida on May 12, 1964.
