William Bascom Hinson was the son of a Methodist minister. His mother came from England in her childhood.

W.B. Hinson married Lydia Susan Byrd on 22 February 1873. She was 16 years old and left her parents with her husband to Texas in a covered wagon Many stories were told of their hardships along the way: escaping from Indians, combating floods, winds, bandits. In 1878, the couple moved to Texas settling first in Dallas County. They moved to Young County in 1880 in the Salem Community, their home was located in what was then known as "Dark Valley." In 1913, the couple purchased a large white two story house, 1-1/2 miles east of Graham where they lived until their deaths.

Mr. HInson raised cattle but in 1912 gave up the cattle business. He bought a farm one mile from Graham where he lived out his days. There were 10 children born to this couple -

Mr. and Mrs. Hinson were devoted members of the Methodist Church.
