Mrs. Mathews was one of the old settlers of Young County, Texas, having moved with her parents from the State of Mississippi in the year 1879 at the age of two years and settled in the Salem Community, in Young County, Texas. She lived in Young County until 1904 when she moved with her husband to Guymon, Oklahoma. In the early days, Mrs. Mathews and her late husband lived at what was then Finis, Jack County, TX, where her husband conducted a general mercantile business.
Survivors: one son – Dr. Dewey L. Mathews of Tonkawa, OK; four sisters: Mrs. Myrtle Anderson; Mrs. Ottie Craig, Mrs. Mettie Lax, Mrs. Dessie Cook; two brothers – C.W. Hinson and F.V. Hinson.
