Mrs. Jack Hamilton, 76, of Rte 5, here, died early Monday morning in the Elizabeth Hospital at Prairie Grove, of burns she suffered early Sunday morning when a stove exploded as she was starting a fire with kerosene.

Jeff Haynes, son-in-law of the Hamiltons, was burned severely about the face, back, hands and arms, in rescuing Mrs. Hamilton from the flames. He is reported to be recovering from his injuries in the hospital. Other residents of the house were uninjured.

The house and all contents were destroyed by the flames. It was located one mile south of town on Hwy. 23 and was owned by Dewey Harris. The house was a landmark in this section as it had been a residence for 150 years.

Other witnesses of the early morning tragedy were Pat Hamilton, a son who lives with Dewey Harris. He saw the smoke and summoned Harris. They ran to the scene but arrived too late to save anything from the flames.

Survivors of Mrs. Hamilton are her husband, of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Ollie Inman of Hilltop, Ark., Mrs. Elsie Howerton of Springdale and Gladys Haynes of Mulberry, Kansas; two sons, Creed Hamilton of Castleford, Idaho and Pat Hamilton of Huntsville. A daughter, Mrs. Jeff Haynes, died last November.

Funeral services will be held at Alabam Friday at 2 p.m.
