Isaac Cunningham Van Meter
Mr. Isaac C. Van Meter died late Friday afternoon at his residence at 540 East Main street at the age of 51 years, after a prolonged illness, and while confined to his bed for only a short time his death was not unexpected.
Mr. Van Meter lived in Clark county for the greater part of his life, removing to this city only a few years ago. He was well known throughout the State as a cattle raiser and farmer, possessing about 1,000 acres of the best land in Clark county and 600 acres in Fayette county, six miles from town, on the Versailles pike. He was genial and kind of disposition and greatly beloved by his family and friends.
Mr. Van Meter is survived by his wife, who was before her marriage Miss Fannie McChesney, of Stanton, Va., and by his son, Thomas Field, 14 years old. He also leaves two brothers, S. L. Van Meter and N. P. Van Meter, and two half sisters, Mrs. Lucy Carr [sic], of Fulton, Mo., and Mrs. Elizabeth Nicholas, of this city.
The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock at his late residence on East Main street, conducted by Rev. C. H. H. Branch, of the Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church, of which Mr. Van Meter was a consistent member, after which the body will be laid to rest in the family lot in the Lexington cemetery. . . .
