N. P. VanMeter Dies Suddenly, Clark Landowner is Stricken Fatally. One of Clark County's wealthiest landowners, age 84, died suddenly of heart attack while on the farm of son Samuel Willis VanMeter; driving over the farm, inspecting some cattle, and was accompanied by his daughter-in-law, Mrs. N.P. VanMeter, Jr., and great-niece, Mrs. Isaac VanMeter, and his granddaughter, Lee VanMeter. The car stuck in a mud hole and the occupants got out and Mr. VanMeter collapsed. He was removed to the home of his son on the farm and was pronounced dead when a physician arrived. Born in Fayette County, April 26, 1857, the son of Solomon and Martha Chandler Prewitt VanMeter, came to Clark County while in his youth. Graduate of Bethany College, Bethany, W.Va., and was an elder in the First Christian Church for thirty years, trustee of the Kentucky Female Orphan School at Midway and was a former curator of Transylvania College.
Survivors: wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Willis VanMeter, two sons, Nelson Prewitt VanMeter, Jr., Winchester, Samuel Willis VanMeter, Clark County, three daughters, Mrs. Pemberton Hutchinson, Philadelphia, PA; Mrs. W. S. Duty, Winchester, and Mrs. Gay Prewitt, Clark County, and ten grandchildren.
