OWENSBORO MESSENGER INQUIRER OBITUARY - 04/10/1955

Hubert L. Hawkins, 68, retired machinist, Maceo, Rt. 1, died at 2:25 p.m. Saturday [April 9, 1955] in the Owensboro Daviess County Hospital. For 20 years he was engaged as a mechanic at Smith Machine & Supply Co., here. He was born in Breckinridge County, September 20, 1886, but had resided in Owensboro and Daviess County for the last 30 years. He was a member of the Yates Post #9 of the American Legion. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Birdie M. Hawkins, Maceo; two brothers, Ralph Hawkins, Owensboro, Roy Hawkins, Evansville, IN; two sisters, Mrs. T.T. Doriot and Miss Helen Hawkins, both of Owensboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the James H. Davis Funeral home by the Rev. Paul C. Gillespie, pastor of Third Street Methodist Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers: Hugh Hawkins, Cashman Hawkins, Robert Hundley, Ernest B. Gordon, James R. Hawkins, Frank Faith. The body is at the funeral home, 1001 Frederica St.
