Funeral Service 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, March 5, 2003 Trinity Lutheran Church Estelline, South Dakota Rev. Ann E.S. Webb, Officiating Interment Hillcrest Cemetery Estelline, SD Visitation 5 PM to 8 PM Tuesday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline.

Mamie Luella (Olson) Papka, daughter of Thomas and Matilda (Breddaken) Olson, was born September 24, 1912 at Bruce, South Dakota. She spent her early years and received her education near Bruce and was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church. After her marriage to Stanley Papka on March 23, 1932 in Toronto, South Dakota they farmed in and around Brookings County until moving into Estelline in 1950. Mamie worked at the Estelline Coop Creamery and was also employed as a cook at the Estelline School for 25 years until retiring in 1981. Stanley died on January 29, 1994 in Estelline and Mamie entered the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in October of 1997. She died there on Saturday, March 1, 2003 at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 7 days. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Neighborhood Birthday Club and enjoyed family time and these past few years watching Lawrence Welk and playing bingo as often as possible.

Grateful for having shared her life are two sons, Merlin "Bud" Papka and his wife Mary of Tioga, ND, Denny Papka of Estelline; five daughters, Darlene Colberg, Karen Mohan, Jan Sonnenburg and her husband Dale, Judy Keimig, and Cindy Rust and her husband Roland, all of Estelline; 16 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; two sisters, Clara Sando of Brookings, SD and Elsie Moeller and her husband Ray of Estelline; a special friend, Maureen Papka of Brookings; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mamie was preceded in death by her husband Stanley, her parents, four sisters, five brothers and two sons-in-law, Wally Colberg and Dean Mohan.
