STANLEY V. PAPKA was born on May 7, 1911 in Brookings County near White, South Dakota, the son of Frank and Margaret (Falk) Papka. He died on Saturday, January 29, 1994, at the Estelline Care Center at the age of 82 years, 6 months, and 22 days.
Stanley spent his early years and received his education in a rural school in Brookings County. He was baptized and confirmed at the Argo Lutheran Church. He was united in marriage to Mamie Olson on March 23, 1932 in Toronto, South Dakota. They farmed in and around Brookings County until moving into Estelline in 1950. Stanley was then employed by Ray Moeller, the Estelline Creamery and the City of Estelline. He then operated his own trucking company prior to his sixteen years of employment with Estelline Coop Grain. Upon retirement, his enjoyment was working on the farm, assisting his son at the bakery, and lending a helping hand to everyone in need.
Stanley was a Funk's Seed Corn dealer, a member of the Hamlin County Sportsman's Club, and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Estelline.
Grateful for having shared his life was his wife, Mamie of Estelline; two sons, Merlin "Bud" and his wife Mary of Tioga, North Dakota, Denny and his wife, Maureen of Estelline; five daughters, Judy Keimig and her husband, Jerry of Webster, New York, Darlene Colberg, Karen Mohan and her husband, Dean, Janice Sonnenburg and her husband, Dale, and Cindy Rust and her husband, Ronald, all of Estelline; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Papka and his wife, Myrtle of Brookings, South Dakota, and Donald Papka and his wife, Melba of San Leandro, California, and one sister, Deloris McLaughlin of Watertown, South Dakota.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Floyd, Foster, Virgil, Francis, Bernard, and his son-in-law, Wallace Colbert.
