Richard "Ted" Greenfield, son of Dick and Reba (Nordmann) Greenfield, was born April 24, 1916 at Woden, Iowa. He moved with his family to the Castlewood, South Dakota area in 1919 and he attended rural school near Castlewood. He was united in marriage to Agnes Bleeker in Castlewood on April 4, 1942 and then served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1945. He served in the South Pacific and following his discharge they farmed in the Castlewood area until moving to Brookings in 1968. He was employed at the Farmers Coop Elevator until retiring and returning to Castlewood. Agnes died on March 17, 1991 and he continued to live in Castlewood until his marriage to Rose Goodroad on December 28, 1992, when he moved to Brookings. Ted entered Brookview Manor in May of 1996 and died there on Sunday, October 10, 2004 at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 16 days. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a 60 year member of the American Legion in Castlewood. He enjoyed family functions, playing cards and household fix-it projects.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Rose of Brookings; two sons, Wayne Greenfield and his wife Joyce of Aberdeen, SD and Dennis Greenfield and his wife Patti of Hartford, SD; eight grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; four step-daughters, Geraldine Aune and her husband C.J. of Cannon Falls, MN, Donna Klapprodt and her husband Don of Brookings, Marjean Nolen and her husband Gary of Rancho Mirage, CA and Karla Graffith and her husband Michael of Golden, CO; nine step grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; two brothers, Carl Greenfield of Castlewood and Bill Greenfield and his wife June of Tucumcari, NM; and a host of other relatives and friends. Ted was preceded in death by his first wife Agnes, his parents, one great granddaughter, two sisters and four brothers.
