William Walter "Bill" Greenfield, 90, a long-time resident of Tucumcari , passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 in Amarillo, TX.
He was born on April 10, 1925, to Dick and Reba Nordman Greenfield in Castlewood, SD. He married June Thomas Weyn in 1969. He was a member of the Tucumcari Masonic Lodge and the B.P.O.E., since the 1960's after coming to Tucumcari to make his home. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and was honorably discharged on December 7, 1946. After the war, he worked at a radio and television station as a technician in Tulsa, OK for several years, but eventually was employed by the F.A.A. and worked on long range radar for 30 years before retiring.
Bill enjoyed his retirement doing crossword puzzles, working in the yard growing, beautiful flowers and keeping a neat lawn. He also loved meeting with his friends for coffee at McDonald's in the early mornings. He was a volunteer at Helping Hands Hospice and served as President of the board for several years, then as a regular board member until his illness forced him to retire from that activity. He loved his family and his church. On April 3, 2010, he received his first Holy Communion and Confirmation and became a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, but retained his friendship and love for both the First Baptist and Presbyterian churches respectively, and still served First Baptist helping with their funeral meals.
Bill is survived by his wife, June, of the home; three sons and their wives, Mark & Esther, John and Julie, David and Cadi; two daughters, Janelle and Jani and her husband, Sean; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at 7:00 P.M. at St. Anne's Catholic Church.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, October 22, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Anne's with Father Hyginus Abuta as Celebrant. Pallbearers will be Mark, John & Zachary Weyn, Sean Cassan, Julian Paiz, Charlie Moya, Weston Alvey & Joey Baldonado. Honorary bearers will be Tom Anderson & Leon Logan.
Interment will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park with Dunn Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Helping Hands Hospice of Tucumcari.
