Eva Bennett Whittington, 92, of Benton died at 9:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with the Rev. James Kerley and the Rev. Ron Cremeens officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

She was born in Akin on Jan. 7, 1918, the daughter of Charles and Elnora (Dillon) Bennett.
She married the Rev. Carl Whittington on April 14, 1935, in Carmi, and he preceded her in death on June 26, 1996.

Mrs. Whittington served with her husband on the Minnesota-Wisconsin Home Mission Field for the Southern Baptist Convention.

Mrs. Whittington was a member of the churches that her husband pastored in Franklin, Massac, Jefferson and Sangamon countie.

Mrs. Whittington is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Whittington of Benton and Carbondale.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Richard "Dick" Whittington; and siblings, Wathie, Lovell, Faye Moore, Jewel Irby, Lloyd, Humbert, Genevieve and Marjorie Lewis.
