HELPER - Rose Spadafora Albo, age 88, loving mother and grandmother, died peacefully Jan. 26, 1998 at St. Joseph's Villa.
She was born Feb. 6, 1910 in Green River to Carmen and Theresa Vetere Spadafora. She was the eldest of seven children. She married Dominic Albo on Feb. 11, 1934. Dominic died on March 15, 1957.
The daughter of Italian immigrants, Rose was affectionately called "Mama" by all who knew her. She lived a simple life, taking pride in her home, tending her garden and roses, baking bread and crocheting afghans. Her daily prayers, her rosary and going to Mass were most important in her life.
She laughed easily and listened well. She was strong, resilient and full of life. She spoke her mind and believed we all should be hard working, honest, respectful and loving. She asked little for herself and believed we were placed on earth not to indulge ourselves, but to take care of others and to that end she devoted her life to her husband, children and grandchildren.
She constantly delighted her grandchildren, who will miss her terribly. "You're all my favorite," she would say to us and somehow she made each of us feel we really were. Although she may not leave a major mark in history, she has unquestionably made the world and each of us better.
Few are loved by so many as you are, Grandma. We know you will always be there looking over us and helping us to do the "right thing." We love you and thank you for all you have been to us.
Rose is survived by her son, Dominic Albo and his wife, Virginia; her daughter, Nataleen Leo; sisters, Yolanda and John Bruno; Clara and Stanley Crocco; brother, Adolph and Ina Spadafora; 12 grandchildren and spouses, Michael Albo, Catherine Albo (Frank Kiser), Steven Leo, Lisa Albo (Rob Katz), Diane Leo (Cletis Kirkpatrick), Amy Albo (John Liston), David Leo, Dominic Albo, Thomas Albo, Jane Leo (Brett Fullmer), Jennifer Leo and Christina Albo; four great-grandchildren, Timothy, Sten, Peter and Nicholas. Preceded in death by brothers, Frank and Tony; and sister, Gilda.
Funeral Mass Saturday, Jan. 31, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. Vigil service Friday evening, 7 p.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church, where friends may visit one hour prior to services.
