From "The Minteers As I Have Known Them" by Josephine Minteer Dickinson (1961 limited-edition private printing of 200 copies), youngest and last surviving of William Minteer and Mary Nicholson's 85 grandchildren: "Never married. She was graduated from Slippery Rock Teachers College in 1895 and taught in Armstrong County and later in Parnassus, Pa. She cared for her parents until their deaths. After a fall she was unable to care for herself and entered the G.A.R. home in Rankin, a suburb of Pittsburgh, where she was well-cared for and very happy. I had the pleasure of visiting her there several times before her death. In her brief stay she endeared herself to all with her gentle acceptance of life." In 1870 she lived with her parents and brother and sister in their house on the west side of Tapeworm Road that had been built on that part of Johnny Dumm's farm that her father had bought from her grandfather. Sam owned real property worth $1000 and personal property worth $400. In 1880 she lived in the same place with her parents, two brothers, and three sisters. In 1900 she and her parents and four of her siblings lived in the house at 448 Fourth Avenue in Parnassus, PA--now part of New Kensington. Amanda was married and living in Marion, OH by then. They owned their home, with a mortgage. She, her father, and her sister Mary were school teachers, Frank a seminary student, and James a printer. In 1910 she and her parents lived there. They owned their home, mortgage free. Sam was retired. In 1920 just she and her mother lived there. Lida was a teacher in the public schools. In 1930 she lived with her sister Nannie Watt and her family in a house at 359 Fourth Avenue in Parnassus. In 1940 she lived in a house that she had bought at 468 Fourth Avenue in New Kensington. It was valued at $3000 and she rented part of it to Guy Wolf and his wife Florence for $25 a month. She lived the last year of her life at the GAR Home in Swissvale, PA
