Elijah Estol Emery was born near Hopeville, Ia., on May 11, 1868, the son of Thomas and Almeda Emery, and after a long illness passed away July 10, 1943, at the home of his sister, Lillie Dale Emery, at the age of 79 years, 2 month and 29 days.
When he was 16 years of age he moved from Iowa to a farm near Mahaska, and then later moved to Narka, where he resided the last years of his life.
While visiting his grandparents he united with the church in Murry, Ia., and he also was a charter member of the Christian Church at Narka. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, No. 349, Narka.
He was united in marriage to Martha Jane Higgs in October 1905, and to their union were born two children, a son, Estol Emery of Kansas City, Kans., and a daughter, Enid Elaine Bridges, who passed away last August. He also leaves a son-in-law, Martin Bridges, a grandson, Cyril Bridges; six brothers, James Michael of Courtland, Albert Thomas of Kansas City, Jesse B. of Liberty, Neb., Clarence C. of Narka, William of Topeka and Guy Gilbert of Nevada; and two sisters, Lillie Dale Emery of Narka and Annie May Epler of Beaver Crossing, Neb. He also is survived by many friends.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Christian Church in Narka by the Rev. C. W. Roll of Belleville. Interment was made in the Mahaska cemetery.
