James Michael Emery, son of Thomas P. and Almeda Emery, was born in Clark county, Ia., November 1, 1866, and passed away at his home north of Courtland September 30, 1943, at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 29 days.

In 1883 he came with his parents to Washington County, Kan., and on November 12, 1895, at Fairbury, Neb., he was united in marriage to Mrs. Rosa M. Gregg of Haddam. To this union four children were born.

In 1909 the family moved to Courtland where he was in business until 1913 when they moved to the farm north of town.

When a young man he united with the Christian church. He was a man of integrity, a good neighbor and loving husband.

He is survived by his wife and children, Bertha and Henry of the home, Earl of Topeka, and Lloyd of Beloit.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Courtland Sunday with the Rev. Harry Riley in charge, and burial was in the Courtland cemetery.
