Laura May Rouner of Plevna, MO died at 8:40 AM Friday, Feb. 17, 1984 in Laughlin Hospital at Kirksville, MO in her 100th year. Born near Hurdland, MO, May 27, 1884, she was the daughter of Charles Cheetham Morrey and Laura Ellen Morriss Wear Morrey. Her father was a Lt. in the Civil War. At the age of 5, she moved via sleigh with her family to Shelby Co, MO, where they settled on a farm near Bethel. On Feb. 13, 1901, she married James Rowley Rouner, son of William and Mary Stiles Hampton Rouner. Her husband preceeded her in death Nov 24, 1939. To this union was born five children, Noble Glenn Rouner who died Dec. 2, 1943, Mary Ellen Leas of Ellsworth, IA, Charles Newton Rouner, who died Jan 6, 1984, Mrs. Donald (Josephine Elizabeth) Epler of Columbia, PA, Mrs. Robert (Doris Virginia) Pickhardt of Whitelend, IN. Also thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and twenty-six great great grandchildren. In 1922 the family moved to Kirksville where she resided until 1962. Mrs. Rouner will be remembered by many osteopathic Physicians and Kirksville State Teachers College graduates she helped through school and the many others who roomed or boarded with her. Mrs. Rouner spent winters in Mountville, PA from 1946 to 1973, where she worked at the Epler Nursing Home until her retirement. Preceeding her in death are half-brothers, Dow Morrey, Charles C. Morrey, Jr, Robert C Morrey, Henry L Wear, Isaac S Wear; half sisters, Mary Ellen Morrey Chadwick, Josephine Morrey, Anna Elizabeth Morrey, Sarah Elizabeth Morrey Calvert, Nancy Wear Minor. Also the following sisters, Margaret Morrey Drennen, Clara Morrey Brown, Martha Morrey Stephens, Mary Morrey Smoot. Surviving is one sister, Ruth Morrey Corbin of Shelbina, MO. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church, Kirksville, Kirksville Chapter # 194 Order of the Eastern Star, and Mt. Salem Baptist Church." Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, Feb 20, 1984 in the Hudson-Rimer Park View Chapel at Kirksville with the Rev. Dan Pritchard officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. Robert Poor, "In the Garden" "God Will Take Care of You" and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again", organist Mrs. Roslyn Baker. Casket Bearers will be Grandsons and Great-grandson: Donald R. Leas, James J. Pickhardt, Paul David Pickhardt, Michael C Pickhardt, James L Tuchek and Gary Snelling. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery at Kirksville, MO.
