John Dow Morrey was born 26 September 1874 in Knox County, Missouri, the son of Charles Cheetham Morrey and Ann Mariah "Kate" Northcraft. Charles served in the Union Army during Civil War in 21st Regiment Infantry Volunteers Company D. Charles died 22 January 1901 in Shelby County, Missouri; "Kate" died 5 August 1882. On 6 February 1898 John Dow married Zora Black. The couple had four children; Priscilla Jane Morrey born 5 December 1898 in Hurdland and married to Leslie Oliver Golden on 1 January 1918 in Brashear, Missouri; Archie Dow Morrey born 20 February 1901 in Hurdland; Effie Mae Morrey born 16 May 1903 in Hurdland and Claudine Royetta Morrey born 9 February 1910 in Hurdland. John Dow Morrey, a farmer, died 28 January 1958 and is buried at IOOF Cemetery in Knox County.
