Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Newton C. Tucker, 42, who died in a Temple hospital Friday following a three weeks' illness.
Mrs. Tucker, a resident of this city, was a teacher in the Killeen public schools.
Rev. Leroy Brown and Rev. J. T. Ayers conducted the rites at Scott's Funeral Home, and burial was in the Restland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jackie Dixon, Marvin Whittenburg, Max Lam, Jim Clawson; Butch Botkin and Doyle Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were Gary Bruton, Duane Tippit and Arlee Beasley.
Mrs. Tucker, the former Miss Mable Brookshire, was born in Coryell County March 15, 1914, the daughter of J. L. and Emma Brookshire.
She lived in this county most of her life and formerly taught school at Ozona, San Angelo and Flat.
She and Mr. Tucker were married May 15, 1951, and she assisted him with the operation of the Cozy Cafe in Gatesville.
Mrs. Tucker was a member of the Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Mrs. J. L. Brookshire of Gatesville; three brothers, Harvey Brookshire of Levita, Raymond Brookshire of Gatesville; and R. T. Brookshire of Slaton; and six sisters, Mrs. Tom Shafer of Temple, Mrs. Willie Kelley of Gatesville, Mrs. Gilbert Colvin of Gatesville, Miss Janie Brookshire of Gatesville, Mrs. Newton Moorhead of Levita and Mrs. Lee L. Richardson of DeRidder, La.
