"Mrs. J. L. Brookshire, 84, died at 7:40 a. m. Saturday in the local hospital following an extended illness. She had been a resident of Central Texas all her life.
Funeral services were held at 4 p. m. Sunday at Scott's Funeral Home, Rev. W. L. Hankla and Rev. George Siler officiating. Burial was in the Restland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jack Hull, Don Riley, Earl Adams, Marvin Baize, Pete Parker and Edwin Calvery.
Mrs. Brookshire was born Miss Emma White in Bell County April 3, 1874. She and Mr. Brookshire were married Nov. 20, 1890. They resided in the southeastern part of Coryell County until 1942, when their farm was taken into the Fort Hood reservation. They then moved to Gatesville.
Mr. Brookshire died in 1949.
Mrs. Brookshire was a member of the First Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Ray Brookshire of Gatesville and R. T. Brookshire of Slaton; six daughters, Mrs. T. L. Shafer of Temple, Mrs. Arthur Kelley of Gatesville, Mrs. Gilbert Colvin of Gatesville, Miss Jane Brookshire of Gatesville, Mrs. Newton Moorhead of Levita, and Mrs. Lee L. Richardson of DeRidder, La.; two sisters, Mrs. K. M. Morris of Amarillo and Mrs. Allie Andrews of Newport Beach, Calif.; two brothers, C. C. White of Gatesville and C. P. White of Goldthwaite; 27 grandchildren, 46 greatgrandchildren and five great-great grandchildren."
