An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Thursday, 7-19-1984:

Janie Brookshire, retired Gatesville school teacher, died Saturday in the local hospital. She was 81.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Scott's Funeral Chapel and were conducted by Rev. Harvey Ozmer and Rev. Plez Todd. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Miss Brookshire's teaching career, which began at Harmony in 1926, spanned 46 years. She taught at Palo Alto, Springhill, Harman, Flat and Oglesby before joining the Gatesville Independent School District faculty in 1946 to teach in the elementary grades. She taught here until her retirement in 1972.
Born May 2, 1903, in Coryell County, she was the daughter of the late J. L. and Emma Brookshire and was reared in this county's Tama Valley. She graduated from Killeen High School and earned a bachelor of science degree at Southwest Texas State University.
Miss Brookshire was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include a brother, R. T. Brookshire of Slaton, and two sisters, Mrs. Elna Moorehead of Gatesville and Mrs. Ethel Colvin of Fort Worth.
Pallbearers for Miss Brookshire's funeral were Don Lee Brookshire, Quinton Pearce, Johnny DeLord, T. L. Schaeffer and Vanoy Hull. Her nephews were honorary pallbearers.
