Rulon is my cousin.
Rulon Fullmer Howe was born Sunday, October 12, 1913 in South Cottonwood (Murray), Utah to Harry Esmond Howe Sr. and Minnie May Fullmer.

He attended schools in Murray and Salt Lake City, graduating from Granite High School in 1930. He received a BS Degree from the University of Utah in 1935, and completed two years at the University of Utah School of Medicine before transferring to the University of Chicago School of Medicine, where he received his MD in 1937.

He subsequently served five years in the U.S. Army Air Corps, resigning with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Rulon completed his medical training as a fellow of Mayo Clinic, receiving a MS in surgery from the University of Minnesota in 1946.

Rulon married Margaret Jean Clark on June 6, 1936. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple. Margaret died December 30, 1989. He married Mel C. Corday on August 25, 1991. They later divorced but remained friends.

Rulon enjoyed gardening, cooking, golf, oil painting, and sculpture. During his retirement, he took special pleasure in breeding and showing Arabian Horses. He was a member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers and the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a High Priest in the Ogden Forest Green Ward.

Dr. Howe practiced medicine in Ogden from 1946 until his retirement in 1972. He co-founded the original Ogden Clinic in 1950, serving as President of the Ogden Clinic Corporation and Partnership for the next ten years.

He was president of the Medical Staffs at St. Benedict Hospital in 1954 and at Thomas D. Dee Hospital in 1966. He served as president of the Ogden Surgical Society in 1958 as well as president of the Utah Chapter of the American College of Surgeons in 1959.

He was a consultant in surgery to Hill Air Force Base from 1948 to 1952, and an adjunct instructor of Surgery at the University of Utah from 1967 to 1972.

Rulon passed away peacefully after a long illness on Wednesday, November 25, 1998 at his home. He resided at 1515 East Oakcrest Drive (4535 South) in South Ogden, Utah at the time of his death.

Rulon was survived by his daughter, Jean Howe Andra Miller (Dr. Richard R. Miller), of Ogden; and his granddaughter, Michelle L. Andra, of Columbia, South Carolina. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Virginia Howe Malin, Salt Lake City; Maxine Howe, Portland, Oregon; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his six brothers, one sister and his first son-in-law, Carl E. Andra.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, November 30, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary located at 3408 Washington Boulevard in Ogden. Friends may call at the mortuary on Monday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Rulon was laid to rest following the conclusion of the Funeral Services at Lindquist's Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch in South Ogden.
