Isabel Shearer Altemus, 95, of Sarver, Buffalo Township, formerly of Leechburg, died at 3:25 p.m. Monday (Jan. 19, 2004) in the emergency room of Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights, Harrison. Born Aug. 17, 1908, in South Buffalo, she lived in Leechburg prior to moving to Sarver, where she was a resident of Rose Brook Assisted Living for the past five years. Mrs. Altemus attended Evangel Heights Assembly of God Church in Buffalo Township. She enjoyed crocheting. Survivors include a son, Harold D. (Isabel) Altemus of Clearfield; two daughters, Mrs. Marilyn (Lynn) Walters of Allegheny Township and Mrs. Carol (Leonard) Stivason of West Leechburg; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Shearer of Freeport. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Altemus, in 1969, three sons, Donald L. Altemus, in 1992, Kenneth Altemus in 1928, and Robert Altemus, killed in the Korean War; a grandson, Robert Altemus, a granddaughter, Dianne Michele Stivason in 1953; a great-granddaughter, Brittany Altemus; her parents, Henry and Minerva Sarver Shearer; three brothers, William, Lockard and Paul Shearer, and two sisters, Lucy Kerr and Nettie Jones. Friends will be welcomed by her family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Clawson's, Second at Main Street, Leechburg, where funeral ceremonies will be conducted at noon Thursday. The Rev. Jeffrey Bogaczyk will officiate. Burial will follow in Freeport Cemetery, South Buffalo.
